Located near the Paseo del Prado and the main monuments of Madrid, El Retiro Park is the best known of the city and also the most visited. It is a green lung of 1.18 million m2 in the heart of the capital, with lots of greenery and some ponds, as well as several monuments and fountains. The best known are the Palacio de Velázquez, the Crystal Palace and the main pond, next to the statue of Alfonso XII.
