The Madrid History Museum houses an excellent collection of paintings that describe Madrid’s history since it became the capital of Spain in the 16th century.
The most outstanding paintings are those of Francisco de Goya, but there are also very interesting works by other lesser known artists and some sculptures. Its facade is also an attraction in itself, it is built in baroque style, one of the most representative of the country.
In the past, the building was occupied by the Royal Hospice of San Fernando, built in the 16th century and completely rebuilt in the 18th century. Today this museum is a recommended visit for all those who are interested in art and the history of Madrid.
