REGISTRATION PERIOD OPENS IN MORE THAN 100 COUNTRIES TO OBTAIN THE DIPLOMA OF SPANISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (DELE) IN MAY

Candidates can apply for levels A1, A2, B1 (formerly beginner), B2 (formerly intermediate), C1 and C2.

The Instituto Cervantes has opened the registration period for the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) exams, which will be held on 24 and 25 May in nearly 800 examination centres in around 100 countries around the world. Almost 100 of these testing centres are in Spain.

In general, the deadline begins next Monday, 25 February, and ends on 19 April, inclusive.

There are seven Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language: DELE A1, A2, B1 (formerly initial), B1 school, B2 (formerly intermediate), C1 and C2. Each of them is obtained after passing the required exam. In May, the school B1 is offered, which in 2012 grew by 47% compared to the previous year.

The DELE diplomas are official qualifications accrediting linguistic competence; they are valid indefinitely and are recognised internationally. In recent years they have experienced a steady growth in the number of enrolments. In 2012 it increased by almost 3%.

Since 2003, the Instituto Cervantes has been awarding these diplomas on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and is responsible for their academic, administrative, economic and commercial management worldwide.
