The ELE Passport is a series of books for learning/teaching Spanish as a foreign language written by Begoña Llovet and Matilde Cerrolaza, directors of TANDEM Madrid, and Professor Óscar Cerrolaza. It is distributed by the Edelsa publishing house, a world reference in Spanish language publications.
It consists of 6 modules at 4 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Each module is made up of the four areas of language use (personal, public, professional and academic), which encourage the use of the language in a more appropriate way for each situation.
At TANDEM Madrid we use the ELE Passport both for teaching Spanish to foreign students and for ELE teacher training courses.
Víctor, one of our students of the course “Objetivo Ser Profesor / a de ELE”, offers us the following commentary about Pasaporte ELE in relation to the curriculum of the Instituto Cervantes..:
I consider the Pasaporte ELE manual to be a perfect adaptation of the Instituto Cervantes curriculum (and the CEFR) reflected in practice in a textbook.
The 4 domains (personal, social, professional and educational) are clearly represented in each of the didactic units covered in the book and all of them are covered in a very structured way and as they are integrated within each didactic unit.
At the same time, for each area, all the content to be covered for each of the competences (lexical, functional, grammatical, sociolinguistic and phonetic-orthographic) is also very well defined and delimited.
I find this handbook very practical because it defines a series of concrete aspects to be developed for each of the domains, and all the domains are related through the common objective included in each didactic unit.
I like the use of different colours to differentiate content, to differentiate each area, etc.; how the content for each competence is treated and I find it very visually pleasing how all the elements are arranged on each page.
From my point of view, I like the way it integrates all the areas of the curriculum, but perhaps the most difficult thing about this manual is to put all this content into practice in the classroom and to deal with each of the areas in such a structured way.
