Student of the month: Verena Cavelius

The student of the month presents:

Verena Cavelius
Spanish student from Germany

Verena Cavelius 2 To begin with, we would like to thank you for working with us. We want to get to know you a little better, so please answer the following questions. It is a new way to practice your Spanish and improve your knowledge.

1-Could you introduce yourself? Tell us who you are, what you do, where you are from and where you study.

Hello, my name is Verena Cavelius and I am from Germany. Originally I come from the southwest of Germany, very close to the French border. Now I live in Baden-Wuerttemberg. I studied history and Spanish in Trier.

2- Why did you choose to study in Madrid? Do you like this city?

I chose Madrid to learn Spanish because it is the heart of Spain. It is a city with many possibilities. You can not only learn a lot about history, cultural life, etc. but also about life in the street, that is to say, enjoying tapas, tinto de verano, breathing the life of this country. Madrid offers you a combination of everything. Moreover, if you feel like travelling, it is very easy to get to the most important Spanish cities from Madrid. I think you can tell that, of course, I love Madrid.

3- Have you been studying Spanish for a long time? Why did you decide to learn Spanish? What do you find most difficult?

I started studying Spanish 10 years ago, but only as a hobby. Then, I don’t know why, I was more interested in Spanish. I love languages and in Germany I had already learnt English, but as Spanish is the second official language of the world I thought it would be interesting to get to know it… The most difficult thing for me is often the Spanish linguistic structure, which is very different from the German language. Another difficult aspect is the speed with which Spaniards speak. Now I’m used to it, but at the beginning… Uff!

4-How is your experience in Spain and at school?

I am in Madrid for the third time, also in school, do I have to explain it more? The school is phenomenal. The teachers are very friendly and help you if you have questions etc.

5-Would you like to say something to our readers?

Well, a visit to Madrid is always worth it.
